Who is Jesus – feature films

Who is Jesus and how do we get to know him? In the New Testament of the Bible, there are five major accounts of the life of Jesus i.e. the Four Gospels and the Acts of the Apostles. These five books have been made into five feature films and are a great resource to get a visual experience of who Jesus is and what are his teachings.

The first four books are all about the life and teachings of Jesus, stories that Christians quickly spread throughout the Roman Empire during the first century. These Christians called the message of Jesus “the gospel,” which means “good news”. And so the four books that tell the gospel came to be called “the Four Gospels.” The fifth book, called “Acts,” is a work of early Christian history and is not a gospel.

One project, the LUMO project has made four excellent feature films of these accounts, the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. The film dialogue is overlaid with an English voice-over narration using unabridged Biblical text as script.

Another project, the OverViewBible website provides excellent introductions to each of the four Gospels. It is very helpful to get an overview of each of the Gospel authors prior to watching the full feature film.

The first Gospel is Matthew’s Gospel. This overview of Matthew introduces who he was and an outline on the contents of his Gospel. The full length feature film ‘The Gospel of Matthew‘ is a visual representation of his entire Gospel.

The second Gospel is Mark’s Gospel. This short overview of Mark introduces who he was and an outline on the contents of his Gospel. The full length feature film ‘The Gospel of Mark‘ is a visual representation of his entire Gospel.

The third Gospel is Luke’s Gospel. The Acts of the Apostles was also written by Luke. This short overview of Luke & Acts introduces who he was and an outline on the contents of his Gospel. The feature film ‘The Gospel of Luke‘ is a visual representation of his entire Gospel. Another film of the second book written by Luke, Acts of The Apostles is a visual representation of this book.

The fourth Gospel is John’s Gospel. This short overview of John introduces who he was and an outline on the contents of his Gospel. The full length feature film ‘The Gospel of John‘ is a visual representation of his entire Gospel.
